The following are two news articles, one from ABC11 and the other from the News and Observer, that parrot a new wave of hilarious nonsense from Durham’s Chief Lopez and Mayor Bell. Lopez keeps pushing the outside agitator, anarchists-are-all-from-a-land-far-away line, aided by the utter ineptitude lapdog nature of local journalist-hacks. For his part, on the surface it would seem that Mayor Bell thinks that if he just explains the rules a little better, maybe everyone will start following them. A deeper analysis, though, might suggest that he’s just continuing to try to consolidate his own liberal camp around condemnation of the “irresponsible”  and distruptive protests that have, unfortunately for him, attracted such a broad array of folks willing to break the law. The Indy came out with a similar article this week, pushing for body cameras on cops while condemning the takeover of highways, as the tactic can endanger “police officer’s lives” when instead there are “other streets” people could block. Silly us–we just couldn’t find any other streets!!

Notice how, in spite of the fact that the website they refer to explicitly credits a local Durham group for calling for the New Year’s Eve Jail demo (“from Amplify Voices”), ABC11 instead credits a Chapel Hill “anarchist group” for the demo, misnaming them (“Prison Books Collection”) in the process. Nice work y’all. Either the skilled keyboard ninjas over at ABC11 don’t know how an internet search works, or they’re interested in actively spreading Lopez’ increasingly desperate misinformation.
